My name is Mariane and I love dessert.
I’ve always loved dessert. But it hasn’t always loved me back.
As a child and teenager, I felt sick almost all of the time. It was uncomfortable, unpleasant, and really affected my day-to-day. It wasn’t until I was in my early 20’s that I figured out that I was intolerant to both gluten and dairy. The day I figured it out was a glorious one — it literally changed my life for the better.
From then on, I became fascinated with nutrition and how it could affect health. So much so, that I got a Ph.D. in epidemiology where I studied the relationship between nutrition, physical activity, and chronic disease.
As I dug deep into my studies and learned more and more about nutrition, I started to really shift the way I ate — not to mention that going gluten- and dairy-free also required quite a change to my usual habits. The changes I made, especially in terms of going gluten- and dairy-free, made it so that I really couldn’t have most traditional sweets and desserts anymore (unless I wanted to physically feel terrible afterward). But I still LOVED dessert. Sadly, when I found out about my intolerances, there really weren’t many gluten- and dairy-free options out there (like there are today).
So, instead of giving up on my beloved desserts, I started creating recipes that used nutrient-dense ingredients, like nuts, and natural sweeteners, like dates — ingredients that would nourish my body and still allow me to indulge in dessert now and then, while also being gluten- and dairy-free.
It didn’t take long before my desserts became a hit with family and friends. And it was a win-win because I loved creating new recipes, and those around me loved testing them.
I’ve now been creating dessert recipes for over 15 years. And I’ve finally decided to share my new creations and old favorites on this blog. Most are quick and easy and often require only one or two bowls! The less clean up the better, right?
Now, some might think that these desserts are only for those who suffer from gluten or dairy intolerances. But that’s where you’re wrong! This blog is dedicated to delicious desserts that can fit into anyone’s lifestyle.
I hope you enjoy it!
